Happily Ever After

Nightmares loom in the distance
Seeking shelter in the shadows of my mind
Inching further away from the light shining through
Biding their time waiting for the tiniest cloud
To dim just the smallest portion of joy within

Always there ready to act
Dragging me back to a not so long ago past
When my eyes were clouded
Unable to see potential in a future

Seductively they whisper to my minds ear
"You know it's easier to just give in,
in the end we always win,
A loving full life you will never receive,
Cruel it is yourself to deceive."

But the slightest flutter from my son
Reminds me that the past is gone
A life filled with children's laughter
Lies ahead in my happily ever after.
